Candle Care Guide

A few simple care tips will help your candle burn beautifully, smell its best, and last as long as possible. Our candles are handcrafted with 100% natural soy wax and premium fragrance oils, so a little candle care goes a long way.

Before You Burn

Trim the Wick

Before each burn, trim the wick to approximately ¼ inch.

A properly trimmed wick helps create:

  • A cleaner flame
  • Less soot
  • A more even burn
  • Better fragrance performance
  • A longer-lasting candle

The First Burn Matters

The first burn helps "set the memory" of your candle.

Allow the melted wax to reach the edges of the vessel before extinguishing the flame. Depending on the size of your candle, this usually takes 2–4 hours.

This helps prevent tunneling and promotes an even burn throughout the life of your candle.

While Your Candle is Burning

How Long Should I Burn My Candle?

For the best performance:

  • Burn your candle for 2–4 hours at a time.
  • Never burn longer than 4 hours continuously.
  • Allow the wax to melt close to the edges of the vessel whenever possible.

Keep Your Candle Safe

Always burn your candle:

  • On a heat-resistant surface
  • Away from drafts, fans, and open windows
  • Away from curtains or flammable materials
  • Out of reach of children and pets
  • Within sight while burning

Never leave a burning candle unattended.

Why is My Candle Tunneling?

Tunneling happens when the candle is extinguished before the wax has melted evenly across the surface.

To help prevent tunneling:

  • Allow the first burn to create a full melt pool.
  • Let the wax melt close to the edges during future burns.
  • Trim the wick before every use.
  • Do not burn for more than four hours at a time.

Why is My Flame Too Large?

A flame that becomes unusually tall often means the wick is too long.

Simply extinguish the candle, allow the wax to cool, trim the wick to ¼ inch, and relight.

This helps reduce soot and keeps the candle burning safely.

Why Does My Candle Produce Black Soot?

A small amount of soot is normal with any candle.

To minimize soot:

  • Trim the wick before every burn.
  • Keep candles away from drafts.
  • Avoid burning for longer than four hours.

Why Does My Soy Candle Have White Spots or Look Frosted?

Natural soy wax may occasionally develop frosting, white spots, or slight texture variations.

These cosmetic changes are completely normal and are a natural characteristic of soy wax. They do not affect the fragrance, performance, or quality of your candle.

Why Does the Wax Look Uneven After Burning?

Because soy wax is a natural material, the surface may cool with slight ripples, bumps, or an uneven appearance after burning.

This is completely normal and does not affect how your candle performs.

Why Does My Candle "Sweat?"

During warmer temperatures, natural fragrance oils may occasionally appear on the surface of the wax.

This is called sweating and is completely normal.

Simply wipe away any excess oil with a paper towel before lighting your candle.

Getting the Most From Your Candle

How Can I Make My Candle Last Longer?

To maximize burn time:

  • Trim the wick before each burn.
  • Allow the wax to reach the edges whenever possible.
  • Burn for 2–4 hours at a time.
  • Keep your candle away from drafts.
  • Store it with the lid on when not in use to help preserve fragrance.

How Long Do Your Candles Last?

Burn times vary depending on the size of the vessel, fragrance, environment, and how the candle is cared for.

Following proper candle-care practices will help you get the most enjoyment from every candle.

(You could also list estimated burn times by size here if you'd like—for example: 4 oz: 20–25 hours, 9 oz: 45–55 hours, etc.)

When Your Candle is Finished

When Should I Stop Burning My Candle?

Discontinue use when approximately ½ inch of wax remains in the bottom of the vessel.

Burning beyond this point may cause the container to become excessively hot.

Can I Reuse My Candle Vessel?

Absolutely.

Our glass, ceramic, and tin vessels are selected to be enjoyed long after the candle has finished burning.

To remove leftover wax:

  1. Place the vessel in the freezer for several hours.
  2. Gently pop out the remaining wax with a spoon or butter knife.
  3. Wash with warm, soapy water.
  4. Repurpose your vessel as a planter, storage container, desk organizer, or decorative piece.
